Microsoft confirmed on its Windows 10 support site
“We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,” .
Following update 1809, users reported that the documents in their user account folders had simply vanished. One frustrated user complained about losing more than 220GB of data throughout his documents and photos folders.
Some other users took to Twitter to complain about deleted music and downloaded files.
Microsoft has also outlined compatibility issues with systems using certain Intel Audio drivers, and still others complained about buggy visual performance following the update.
Microsoft literally has hundreds of thousands of individuals beta-testing every update and new Windows 10 feature via their Insiders program, so it’s completely shocking that such a serious “bug” slipped through the QA process.
However Microsoft deserve the credit for taking decisive action and pausing the update this quickly.
